Summer Day (2018)

Director: Jiayi Li

Country: China

Duration: 11:00

Synopsis: This story is about a boy ’s summer memory. “Summer Days” tells the story of two young people who happened in a short summer. One protagonist was unable to go home because of the missed train and had to live on the street, and happened to meet another protagonist. There are two story lines in the short film, which bring out different time and space backgrounds with different characters. The time and space information of the two characters, that is, the mobility of wandering on the street due to the wrong car, contrasts with the calmness of daily life but the subtle emotions. Although it is the same summer day, the characters are full of perception of time in different states. The character’s mental state and the intensity of the event did not compete with each other to occupy the attention of the audience, but reached balance on the basis of time as a whole concept. The fragmented impression of life constitutes a “time stream”, which dilutes the original three-act drama tendency of the short film.
