It was a warm, friendly, smart and casual evening.
We are a monthly festival, it means that every month we are selecting films, deciding winners and screening them in a cinema theatre in Moscow. So our experience is growing 12 times faster than a classic festival (with one event per year). So we can say that it was not exactly our first edition. But yes, on 31st of July was our first trophy ceremony. We awarded the best films of the year.
It was a very long process, because in order to qualify for the annual awards, filmmakers should have won at least one monthly category. We have 10 nomination categories: Best Music Video, Best Animation, Best Experimental, Best Documentary, Best Student, Best Narrative, Best Cinematography, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Film.
We’ve made a special trophy for our winners. Moscow Shorts trophy is original, from the idea to the final product. Each part is hand made and it took more than 3 months to finalize it.
But maybe you are wondering what is this big Matrioshka. She is our fortune teller. She knows the winners of our festival.
As you know, Matryoshka or Babushka, or Russian Dolls, are the set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside another. Inside our Matryoshka it was written the name of the winners.
